Navigating the Professional Identity Shift
Return to Work Transition
You spent years building your career, and now you’re preparing to re-enter that world as a completely different person.
Coming back to work after maternity leave brings about a lot of thoughts and questions. I am not ready to go back to work. How will the baby do at child care or with a nanny? How will I balance my work and show up for my baby?
Are you feeling panicked and overwhelmed weeks before your leave ends? Are you worried if you can still perform at your previous level while carrying the mental load of motherhood? Becoming a mother is not just adding a new member to your family, but an identity shift that fundamentally shifts how you show up in your career, in your relationships, and in the world. In this global economic market and the high-pressure demands of Silicon Valley, the friction can feel overwhelming. You are navigating a major life transition that requires a new set of tools and expectations. I’m here to help you bridge the gap between who you were and who you are now.

The return to work is rarely just about a change in schedule and routine. It is one of the pivotal moments of the identity shifts of becoming a mother. For many high-achieving mothers in Silicon Valley, the transition to being a career woman to a working mother can trigger a sense of fragmentation. You can feel pulled in so many directions and unsure of how to balance showing up at work and showing up at home for your baby. We work together to move past the wall of shame and guilt and focus on what you want to prioritize and take care of your nervous system to stay present in both identities.
If you find that the transition is feeling particularly heavy due to a difficult entry into motherhood, we can also integrate birth trauma recovery into our sessions to help settle your nervous system before you head back to the office.

To feel successful in managing the “9-5” career and the "second shift" requires more than just a shared calendar. It requires a complete redesign of your daily routines and the establishment of healthy boundaries. Working together, we will move beyond generic "work-life balance" advice to create a personalized framework for a sustainable home and work life. This includes navigating the invisible labor of the home, managing pumping schedules, and setting expectations with leadership that respects your capacity at your job and your family.
For second-time momsor those balancing a growing family, finding your center often means auditing routines that worked previously to find new ways of managing both identities of career women and caring mother to multiple children. Managing this phase of life requires a unique approach. I provide specialized treatment to address the concerns during this period of motherhood.

Separation from your baby after weeks or months of being together 24.7 can leave your nervous system in a state of overwhelm. This can make it difficult to stay focused during meetings or feel present during the short hours you have with your baby in the evening. In sessions with me, we will utilize somatic tools that can help you regulate your nervous system in real time at your desk or anywhere. These tools aren’t just about managing workplace anxiety, but also protecting the parent-infant bond by ensuring you have the emotional capacity to transition from "Career Woman" to "Mom" the moment you walk through the door.
Our work ensures that you aren't just surviving the workday, but maintaining the parent-child dyadic connection that is the foundation of your family's well-being.
You don’t have to choose between the career you have built and loved before motherhood and the mother you’ve become.
Integrating Career and Matrescence
I have had my own struggles with chasing the “false belief” of balancing my career and being a mother. In reality, there will never be a 50/50 balance in both identities. Instead, you are constantly shifting between high-level professional tasks and the emotional labor of motherhood. As a therapist, private practice owner, and a mother of two, I’ve navigated the complexities of maintaining a high-level professional identity while honoring my role as a parent.
Finding strategies and tools that allow you to navigate these shifts in attention, while also maintaining your own emotional well-being, is an essential part of the modern experience of motherhood. By using both Somatic Integration and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, we will find ways to regulate your nervous system and reframe your mindset during this stage of life. I’m here to help you return to work not just as a 'working mom,' but as a leader who is grounded in her new identity.
